RNX-EasyN4

This is use as a measurement for Signal Strength. The standard antenna strength for 802.11b/g/n wireless product is 2dB. Higher dB level from the Antenna will result in a more powerful wireless signal

You can extend your wireless coverage through WDS mode which utilized a repeater near the end of your range. This repeater will receives and re-broadcasts the signal to extend the range of your network. Both Rosewill’s RNX-EasyN4 and RNX-EasyN400 can be set as a repeater.

Your have probably configured WPA1 security in the router. Officially the 802.11N standard only supports WPA2 (WPA-AES) security. When using different brands 802.11N routers and client adapters, please configure WPA2 only to avoid any incompatibility issues.

This Repeater will help to extend your current Wireless Router’s signal. However due to the radio frequency transmit (signal in and out at the same time), the signal broadcast from the Repeater will decrease to about half.

Please follow below steps to set up RNX-EasyN4 as a Repeater.

 

2)       Open your web browser and type the IP address of the RNX-EasyN4 which you want to use as the repeater. The default IP address is 192.168.0.1. At the login, enter your username and password (default username: admin, password: admin).

3)       Through “Wizard” selection, you can select to set this RNX-EasyN4 to run at AP Repeater Mode.

 4)       The Wizard will prompt you to enter the SSID which you want to use for this Repeater. Key-in your desire SSID, then click “Next”

You should see the below page, click “Reboot”

You will see the count down of the system rebooting

5)       The router will restart and set as a repeater now.

6)       As repeater, RNX-EasyN4‘s DHCP function will be disabled. So you will need to manually set your computer’s IP in order to login to the management page.

Windows XP:

Step 1 Click on Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Network connections.

Step 2 Right-click on the Local Area Connection which represents your network card and select Properties.

Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties.

Click Use the following IP address and enter an IP address that is on the same subnet as the LAN IP address on your router. Example: If the router’s LAN IP address is 192.168.0.1, make your IP address 192.168.0.X where X is a number between 100 and 200. Make sure that the number you choose is not in use on the network.

Set Default Gateway the same as the LAN IP address of your router (192.168.0.1).

7)       Open your web browser and type in 192.168.0.1 on the address bar. At the login, enter your username and password (default username: admin, password: admin).

8)       You will see the configuration homepage under “REPEATER” mode now.

9)       Click “Wireless”, then in “Basic”, Click “Site Survey”

  10)   After click “Site Survey”, you will see a popup window like below. Click Refresh to find your Wireless Router’s SSID.

Click “Select” to add your desired network.

11)   Upon adding, you will see the below page. Please type in your Wireless Router’s Connecting Encryption method and Password. Then Click “Apply”

12)   You should see the system is counting down.

13)   When finish, you should see this shows up. Then your Repeater is ready to help you extend your wireless broadcast range now!

14)   Your RNX-EasyN4 is now ready to act as a repeater to help you extend your wireless broadcast range!!

A: If you use WPS, this router will be configured with WPA2 encryption. If you are using Windows XP Service Pack 2 or an earlier release, then this may cause connection problems. We recommend downloading and installing Service Pack 3, which fixes these problems. Service Pack 3 is available via Windows Update: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

To resolve this issue, disable the DHCP BROADCAST flag in Windows Vista.

To do this, follow these steps:

1.       Click Start , type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.

2.       Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\{GUID}

In this registry path, click the (GUID) subkey that corresponds to the network adapter that is connected to the network.

3.       On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) Value.

4.       In the New Value #1 box, type DhcpConnEnableBcastFlagToggle, and then press ENTER.

5.       Right-click DhcpConnEnableBcastFlagToggle, and then click Modify.

6.       In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.

7.       Close Registry Editor.

By setting this registry key to 1, Windows Vista will first try to obtain an IP address by using the BROADCAST flag in DHCP Discover packets. If that fails, it will try to obtain an IP address without using the BROADCAST flag in DHCP Discover packets.

Note: Not all routers, print servers and access points have a web-based configuration utility. Please check the manual for your particular product.  

When entering the IP address of the device (192.168.0.1 for example), you are not connecting to the Internet or have to be connected to the Internet. The device has the utility built-in to a ROM chip in the device itself. Your computer must be on the same IP subnet to connect to the web-based utility. 

Step 1 Verify your physical connectivity by checking for solid link lights on the device. If you do not get a solid link light, try using a different cable or connect to a different port on the device if possible. If the computer is turned off, the link light may not be on.

Step 2 Disable any internet security software running on the computer. Software firewalls like Zone Alarm, Black Ice, Sygate, Norton Personal Firewall, Windows XP firewall, etc. might block access to the configuration pages. Check the help files included with your firewall software for more information on disabling or configuring it.

Step 3 Configure you internet settings. Go to Start>Settings>Control Panel. Double-click the Internet Options Icon. From the Security tab, click the button to restore the settings to their defaults.

Click to the Connection tab and set the dial-up option to Never Dial a Connection. Click the LAN Settings button.

Nothing should be checked. Click OK.

Goto the Advanced tab and click the button to restore these settings to their defaults.

Click OK out to the desktop and close any open windows.

Step 4 Check your IP address. Your computer must have an IP address in the same range of the device you are attempting to configure. Most devices use the 192.168.0.X range.

If you are attempting to configure a router, then make sure you take note of your computer´s Default Gateway IP address. The Default Gateway is the IP address of the router. By default, the address is either 192.168.0.1

If you are attempting to configure an Access Point or Print Server, you may need to configure your computer with a Static IP Address in the appropriate range.

Step 5 Access the web management. Open your web browser and enter the IP address of your device in the address bar. This should open the login page for your web management. Use the instructions provided with your product to login and complete the configuration.

The reason of not able to surf online might be due to your computer is not able to obtain a full packet from the wireless router for the first time. Please first check the distance between your computers to the wireless router. By moving your computer close to the wireless router at this stage, your computer can easily obtain IP and solve this issue. If moving closer to the wireless router still didn’t solve the issue, please follow below steps. 
Step 1 Click Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Network connections.

Step 2 Right-click on the Local Area Connection which represents your network card and select Properties.

Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties.

Step 3 Click Select Obtain an IP address automatically. Select Obtain DNS server address automatically. Click OK

The above step should help the computer automatically obtain an IP address. However, if you still can’t get online, please follow the rest steps which you will need to assign IP address manually.

Step 4 Click Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Network connections.

Step 5 Right-click on the Local Area Connection which represents your network card and select Properties.

Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties.

Step 6 Set Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0

Step 7 Set Default Gateway the same as the LAN IP address of your router (192.168.0.1).

Step 8 Set Primary DNS the same as the LAN IP address of your router (192.168.0.1).

Step 9 Secondary DNS is not needed or enter a DNS server from your ISP.  Click OK twice. You may be asked if you want to reboot your computer. Click Yes.

After you reboot, the computer will now have a static, private IP address.

These steps should provide your computer with a set of fix IP address which should solve this unable to receive IP issue.

Step 10 Some newer ADSL/Cable modems are now equipped with a battery for when power is lost, i.e. Time Warner Cable Modems, will keep the modem on and connected. Due to the ADSL/Cable modem not assigning the correct DHCP information, the Rosewill Routers can not work correctly and assign a DHCP to the client computers. Please try the following steps below:

1. Configure your settings correctly i.e. DHCP, SSID, Password.

2. Save your settings.

3. Reboot your Rosewill Router and your ADSL/Cable modem.

4. If rebooting your ADSL/Cable modem doesn’t work, please call your ADSL/Cable provider and ask them to reset and restart your ADSL/Cable Modem.

WPS is used for Wi-Fi Protected Setup. By pressing the WPS button on the top panel of the device, the security settings of the device will automatically synchronize with other wireless devices on your network that support Wi-Fi Protected Setup.

Configuration Button Setup:

If the device supports Wi-Fi Protected Setup and has a configuration button you can add it to the network by pressing the configuration button on the device and then the one the router within 60 seconds. The status LED on the router will flash three times if the device has been successfully added to the network.

Within a wireless network, data is sent via a certain radio frequency, so speeds can be affected by interference or obstructions like walls and large objects. So the wireless speed depends on whether your environment has less interference and obstructions.
There are some tips can help you improve your wireless speed:

1.       Place the wireless router in the central location of your house.

2.       Place the wireless router in a higher location.

3.       Arrange the desktop or laptop's wireless card antenna so that it points toward the wireless router.

4.       Selecting a different channel in your wireless router setting to decrease radio frequency interference.

5.       Update your wireless router and adapters to the latest drivers and firmware.

Make sure your computer and the router are using the same 802.11 (wi-fi) standard. Sometimes, if your computer is set to use only wi-fi 802.11 b/g, even though your wireless router supports N, your wireless router will communicate to your computer using G, and reduced your wireless connection speed

Based on the Condition that Rosewill Router’s default IP address of 192.168.0.1:

Windows 95, 98, and ME 

Step 1 From the desktop, right-click on the Network Neighborhood icon (Win ME - My Network Places) and select Properties. Highlight TCP/IP and click the Properties button. If you have more than 1 adapter, then there will be a TCP/IP "Binding" for each adapter. Highlight TCP/IP > (your network adapter) and then click Properties.
 
Step 2 Click Specify an IP address.

Enter in an IP address that is on the same subnet as the LAN IP address on your router. Example: If the router´s LAN IP address is 192.168.0.1, make your IP address 192.168.0.X where X is a number between 2 and 99. Make sure that the number you choose is not in use on the network.

Step 3 Click on the Gateway tab.

Enter the LAN IP address of your router here (192.168.0.1). Click Add when finished.

Step 4 Click on the DNS Configuration tab.

Click Enable DNS. Type in a Host (can be any word). Under DNS server search order, enter the LAN IP address of your router (192.168.0.1). Click Add.

Step 5 Click OK twice. When prompted to reboot your computer, click Yes.

After you reboot, the computer will now have a static, private IP address.
 

Windows 2000

Step 1 Right-click on My Network Places and select Properties.

Step 2 Right-click on the Local Area Connection which represents your network card and select Properties.

Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties.

Click use the following IP address and enter an IP address that is on the same subnet as the LAN IP address on your router.

Example: If the router’s LAN IP address is 192.168.0.1, make your IP address 192.168.0.X where X is a number between 2 and 254. Make sure that the number you choose is not in use on the network. Also is within the range of your preset IP Range. (Eg. Rosewill Wireless Router has the ability to set a range of IP to broadcast)

Step 3 Set Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0

Step 4 Set Default Gateway the same as the LAN IP address of your router (192.168.0.1).

Step 5 Set Primary DNS the same as the LAN IP address of your router (192.168.0.1).

Step 6 Secondary DNS is not needed or enter a DNS server from your ISP.

Step 7 Click OK twice. You may be asked if you want to reboot your computer. Click Yes.

After you reboot, the computer will now have a static, private IP address.

Windows XP

Step 1 Click on Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Network connections.

Step 2 See Step 2 for Windows 2000 and continue from there.

Macintosh OS 7.5 to Macintosh OS 9.2

Step 1 Go to Apple > Control Panels > and down to TCP/IP.

Step 2 In the connect via field select Ethernet built-in, select manually in the configure field.

Step 3 Type in your IP address, subnet mask, router address, and name server address in the boxes provided. Close out of the window making sure to select ok to save your changes.

 
Macintosh OS X

Step 1 Go to Apple > System Preferences > double-click on either of the Network icons.

Step 2 The first configure field should read Ethernet built-in. The configure field under the TCP/IP tab should be set manually.

Step 3 Type in your IP address, subnet mask, router address, and name server address´ in the boxes provided. Close out of the window making sure to select save to save your changes.

Note: This issue was fixed with Windows XP Service Pack 2.  

This behavior usually happens when your connection is configured to use 802.1x Authentication, but your current hardware does not support the feature. To disable the option, follow these steps:

Step 1 Click on Start and then click Run

Step 2 In the box, type ncpa.cpl and press Enter (or click the OK button).

Step 3 The Network Connections screen will appear. Right-click the Wireless Network Connection and select Properties.

Step 4 Click the Authentication tab.

Note If there isn’t an Authentication tab, then please read Microsoft Knowledge Article #828940 for additional help.

Step 5 The Authentication screen will open. Remove the check mark in Enable network access control using IEEE 802.1x option.

Step 6 Click OK to close the window and close all other open windows. Reboot your computer and you should be able to connect to your wireless network.

Note Microsoft Knowledge Article #828940 should also provide additional help for you to solve this issue.

First we need to find out the MAC address of your computer wireless card. This will prevents unauthorized clients from accessing your wireless network. In the following steps, we will use RNX-N4PS as an example.

Step 1 Click on Start and select Run on your computer  

Type “cmd” then click OK.

From the Command Prompt, enter “ipconfig /all”. This will show you the MAC address under the “Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection” where 6 groups of two digits, letters and numbers after “Physical Address”. Write down this address. We will use this MAC address for setting up. In this example, we will use MAC address “00092E6E7A28”.

Step 2 Log on to the router’s management web page at http://192.168.0.1 (Rosewill’s default setting), and enter the user name, password. By default, the user name is “admin”; password is “admin”. If the password was changed, and forgotten, please reset the router for returning to the default user name and default password.

Step 3 Click “Wireless”, then click “Filter”. You should now see below window, please click to enable “Enable Wireless Access Control”

Step 4 You can now add your desired MAC address into the list. Enter your desired description in the “Description” section and 6 groups of two digits, letters and numbers where you found in Step 1 to “Mac Address”. In our case, please enter “00092E6E7A28”. Then click “Add”.

The wireless station will now be added into the "Current Access Control List" below. If you are having any difficulties filling in the fields, just click "Clear" and both "Description" and "MAC Address" fields will be cleared.

Step 5 Click “Apply” at the bottom of the screen to save the above configurations.

To remove MAC Address, If you want to remove a MAC address from the "Current Access Control List ", select the MAC address that you want to remove in the “MAC Address Filtering Table” then click "Delete Selected". If you want to remove all the MAC addresses from the list, just click the “Delete All” button. Click “Reset” will clear your current selections.

Please follow the steps below to find the MAC (Media Access Control) address of your network adapter. 

MAC address is a unique serial number assigned to each network adapter, making it possible to deliver data packets to a destination within a sub-network.

Step 1 Click on Start, and then click on “Run”.

Step 2 The Run dialogue box will appear. Type “cmd” in the window and click on OK button.

Step 3 A DOS window will appear. This is also commonly called a Command Prompt.

Step 4 Type ipconfig /all at the command prompt. Hit the Enter key.

Step 5 This window will now display your networking information. The MAC Address is listed under the heading Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: and listed as the Physical Address.

 

In this example, the MAC Address of your computer is 00-04-23-5A-XX-XX, which is the Physical Address of the NIC (Network Interface Card) card. To close the window when you are finished, type exit at the command prompt and hit the Enter key.

Windows 95, 98, and ME

Step 1 Click on Start, then click on Run.

Step 2 The Run Dialogue Box will appear. Type winipcfg in the window as shown then click OK.

Step 3 The IP Configuration window will appear, displaying your Ethernet Adapter Information. Select your adapter from the drop down menu. If you do not see your adapter in the drop down menu, your adapter is not properly installed.

Step 4 After selecting your adapter, it will display your IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway.

Step 5 Click on the More Info button to show DNS settings

Step 6 Click OK to close the IP Configuration window. 

Windows 2000 or XP 

Step 1 Click on Start and select Run.

Step 2 Type cmd then click OK.

Step 3 From the Command Prompt, enter ipconfig. It will return your IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway.

Step 4 From the Command Prompt, enter ipconfig /all. It will return you additional information on your network adapter - includes DNS settings, MAC Address.

Step 5 Type exit to close the command prompt.

Macintosh 8.x and 9.x

Step 1 Click on the Apple Menu>Control Panels>TCP/IP.

Step 2 Select your Ethernet adapter from the Connect Via drop-down menu.

Step 3 Under Setup, select Using DHCP Server from the Configure drop-down menu, if connecting to a router DHCP server. This is the most common setting when using a router. In this configuration, your computer will be automatically assigned an IP address by the router.

Step 4 You must reboot your computer to "renew" your IP address.

Macintosh OS X

Step 1 Click on Apple Menu>System Preferences>Network>TCP/IP.

Linux

Step 1 At the command line type /sbin/ifconfig and you will get a listing of information. Your IP is shown after inet addr.

Due to the DSL/Cable modem not assigning the correct DHCP information, the Rosewill Routers can not work correctly and assign a DHCP to the client computers. In order for this to work, you will need to reset your DSL/Cable modem. However, some newer DSL/Cable modems are now equipped with a battery for when power is lost, i.e. Time Warner Cable Modems, will keep the modem on and connected.

Please try the following steps below:

Step 1 Configure your settings correctly i.e. DHCP, SSID, Password.

Step 2 Save your settings.

Step 3 Reboot your Rosewill Router.

Step 4 Contact your DSL/Cable provider and ask them to reset and restart your DSL/Cable Modem.

Caution:

To upgrade firmware, please make sure the wireless connection is disabled and the computer is connected with a cable to the router.

Also make sure the computer and the wireless router are both plug-in with power adapter during this whole process

Step 1 Download the latest firmware from the Rosewill website at http://www.rosewill.com. Save it on the Desktop of your PC. Then unzip the file

 

Step 2 Log on to the management web page of the AP. By default, the management IP is http://192.168.0.1 , and the user name is “admin”; password is “admin”

 

Step 3 Click “Tools” and “Firmware”, then Click “Browse”

Step 4 Select the latest firmware that you saved and unzipped in the Desktop.

Step 5 Click “Apply” button.

Step 6 Click “OK” button for writing the latest firmware to your router.

Step 7 Click “OK” button.
