Product Review Tips:

  • Be real – We and our customers want honest reviews, so tell others the good, the bad, and all the in-betweens.
  • Get detailed - Sure, saying that an item was “Good” or “Bad” is nice - but what made you feel this way? Include something that you may have wanted to know before you bought the item.
  • Stay respectful – It’s ok to be upset, but anything that breaks our review guidelines will be removed - so be sure to follow them otherwise your feedback won’t be seen.
  • Don’t mention price or shipping issues – That’s not the product’s fault.

Low quality
Cheap is right both in cost and quality, the Leds don't even work. Spend a little more on Startek and you will be happy. And yes, I'm still using these because I put too much work in this case and and my server rack. But if I can help someone from making the same mistake that I did, I'll feel a little better.

Cheap, solid bay with caveats
These bays are about as cheap as they come for this class of prosumer chassis. They work well but, as Eric P mentioned, there is some "buyer beware" critical information, that cannot be found on this product page, that you should know about before purchasing these : 1. Power is delivered through MOLEX connectors. There are 2x molex ports per cage that power all 4 drives (and the fan). Sata-to-molex adapters can be huge fire hazards when not using crimped sata connectors so make sure you have a source for quality male sata to female molex adapters OR make sure your PSU has enough perif/molex cables. 2. Fan connectors are NOT PWM. These are 3-pin fan connectors. 3. On the L4500 chassis, at-least, they need to be oriented in a vertical position to fit -- rather than the horizontal position shown in the product images. 3. These bays are *kind of* compatible with the L4500 chassis. As Eric P said they do not fit as-is as the internal lip of the front, plastic face plate is slightly too long and hits the raised part of the chassis just inside the cage area. However, this can be "fixed" by unscrewing the cage face plate (two phillips head screws) and then setting the face plate at a slight angle before sliding in the cage. If it is angled so the "bottom" of the face plate is flush and the "top" is slightly protruding then the cage will 1) fit in the chassis and 2) you can still close the chassis door/filter without it bumping. This does not affect functionality of the cage at all other than it not looking perfect. If you own a dremel I suspect the internal lip could be shaved down with either a sanding or grinding disc to get it fit flush without too much trouble. Additionally, the locking metal fins from the original fixed cages from the L4500 can be reused in on these cages to keep them in place (like the original cages were).

Great, but caution
The hot swap drive bays are well designed and feel like a solid product, that said this is not compatible with the "L4500" server chassis (not the U edition). The front plastic lip is just slightly too tall (by like 1-3mm) and I'm removing a star for the lack of information on the product page: no official compatibility information, no digital manual, & the manual that does come with the product could use a few more details. PSA: Double & triple check that this product will be compatible with your case.
